What is new, without the brochure words
Launch posts like faster, sharper, more stable. On a real still, that usually means three things.
You wait less. OpenAI says latency can drop by as much as half versus 2.0. If you roll three or four frames to check the light, you feel that first.
Surfaces look less like a showroom. Metal, cloth, and wood do not all get the same glossy coat. If you say the window is on the left, the shadow is more likely to stay on that side.
Edits listen better. Upload a still you already like and ask to move one object. The rest of the frame jumps around less than it did on 2.0. That is the change worth caring about. Older versions often rebuilt the whole subject when you asked for one corner.
If the list on your account is just “GPT Image 2.5,” use that. Some setups split Flare (faster drafts) and Sunburst (tighter finals). Same family. Do not get stuck on the nickname.
GPT Image 2.5 vs 2.0
Using the same prompt and reference image, the differences are roughly as follows. The figures come from OpenAI's own release notes, while "you will feel" represents the outcome more frequently observed in actual image generation.
| GPT Image 2.0 | GPT Image 2.5 | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Fine for one still; several tests feel slow | Officially up to ~50% lower wait |
| Light and texture | Easy to go glossy and flat | Window light and materials hold more often |
| Image to image | One small edit can rebuild the whole object | More likely to change only what you asked |
| Type in the frame | Short words smear | One short line, one spot, readable more often |
| Best use on Movmix | Drafts you do not need to edit | Text to image, then a tight image-to-image pass |
| Video | Not a video model | Still not a video model |
| Example | ![]() | ![]() |
It will not invent a better composition for a sloppy sentence. Messy prompt, messy picture. Same as before. It is not a new kind of tool. It is the next 2.0: same job, fewer spoiled frames.
When to pick it
Use it for a product still, a portrait base, or a photo you only want to change in one place.
Skip it if you came to make a clip, or if the plan is one vague line about “mood” and a prayer.
How to click through Image is the Tutorial post. How to order the words is the Prompts post. This one is only the news: the model is here, and the real upgrade is the edit.
Go make one still
Open Image. Choose GPT Image 2.5. Generate something you actually need this week. Then run image to image on that same file. That tells you more than another recap.
